Drinking Water Safety Week Campaign.

TWAD Board has adopted an innovative practice in promoting community participation in Water quality monitoring by conducting DRINKING WATER SAFETY WEEK CAMPAIGN.

The Government of Tamilnadu have issued the Government order G.O. (D) No.577 M.A & W.S (WS 2) Department, dated:21.11.2013 for spearheading the Drinking water safety week campaign (DWSW) in Tamil Nadu, as first of its kind in India. The Honourable Chief Minister of Tamilnadu inaugurated the Drinking water safety week campaign (DWSW) on 19.02.2014 at the Secretariat, Chennai by handing over the FWTKs to the Panchayat Presidents.

The Pioneer steps taken by the Government of Tamilnadu in conducting this week long campaign during 2013-2014 has inspired the GOI, Ministry of Drinking water and Sanitation to launch a country wide week long campaign as National Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Awareness Week.

During 2014-15 Honorable Minister for Municipal Administration, Rural Development, Law, Courts and Prisons of Tamil Nadu inaugurated National Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Awareness Week on 16.03.2015.

Subsequently, during 2015-16, National Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Awareness Week was inaugurated Honorable Minister for Municipal Administration, Rural Development, and implementation of special programmes of Tamil Nadu on 27.06.2016.

This week long campaign intended to have a mass water evaluation activity, District rallies, Block rallies,Panchayat rallies, street plays, dances etc. where the public and students will be educated about the importance of the drinking water quality and the quality of water they drink every day. The Field water testing kit developed by TWAD Board, State Level Water Laboratory played a key role in testing 5 lakh water samples at one go for 12 critical chemical parameters which decides the potability of water.
