CWSS to Tittakudi, Pennadam, Mangalampettai, Vadalur, Kurinjipadi and Gangaikondan Town Panchayats and 625 Rural Habitaions in Mangalore, Nallur and Vridhachalam Unions in Cuddalore Districts with NLC mine water as source

During Assembly session demand No.34 under 110 rule, the scheme was announced by the Hon’ble minister for MA&WS and Rural Development in the year 2011-12 & 2012-13. The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu during M.G.R Centenary celebration in Cuddalore District on 16.08.2017 announced that one 100 mld desalination plant will be installed at a cost of Rs. 1000 Cr as a permanent remedial measure for water supply to the Municipalities, Town Panchayats and way side habitations in Cuddalore District

Subsequently, Government directed TWAD Board to take up investigation for providing CWSS to Tittakudi, Pennadam, Mangalampettai, Vadalur, Kurinjipadi and Gangaikondan Town Panchayats and 625 Rural Habitaions in Mangalore, Nallur and Vridhachalam Unions in Cuddalore Districts with NLC mine water as source.

The Scheme has been administratively sanctioned for Rs.479.00 crore vide G.O.(Ms) No.47/dated.24.04.2020 under the funding NABARD (Rs.381.80 Cr) and MNP(Rs.97.20 Cr).

This project area comprises of 6 Town Panchayats and 625 Rual habitations in cuddalore distrct with NLC mine water as source. The Scheme has been designed to serve a total base year population of 5.58 Lakh (2022) with 23.92 MLD, Intermediate population of 6.68 Lakh(2037) with 31.26 MLD and ultimate population of 7.92 Lakh (2052) with 39.43 MLD.

The source for the scheme is runoff of NLC Mine-II discharge water. The quantity of 31.26 MLD of raw water is to be tapped and treated at water treatment plant located at Keelvalayamadevi. The treated water is to be collected at 22.00 LL capacity collection sump. From the collection sump, the water is to be pumped through Transmission main –I, II-49.75 Km & Major Pumping main 8 Nos of 134.16 km respectively with 4 Nos of Booster station located at Pudukoorapettai, Kottadai, Kottaram and Avati. The water from the above booster station is to be pumped to the 29 Nos of group sumps with the feeder main length of 65.93 Km and 146 Nos of Panchayat sumps and 6 Nos of common sump through a feeder main for a length of 263.47 km.

From 6 Town Panchayts, the water pumped to the OHT from the sump for a length of 61.734 km and distributed to the public through existing distribution system and Public fountains.

From the Panchayat sump the water is pumped to OHT for a length of 340.386 km and distributed to the public through existing distribution system and Public fountains.

For speedy implementation the works have been spilitted into 4 Packages and and Work order for both the Packages III and IV have been issued on 04.11.2020, Package II is on 11.12.2020 and for Package I on 25.02.2021. So far 4% of work has been completed and expenditure incurred is Rs. 31.35 Cr (7%). The scheme is targeted for completion by 06 / 2023. On completion of the scheme 6 Town Panchayat will be served with 135 LPCD and 625 Rural habitations will be served with 55 LPCD as per Norms.
