Tirunelvelli UGSS

The Underground Sewerage Scheme for Tirunelveli Corporation has been administratively sanctioned for Rs.66.00 crores in G.O.Ms.No.148/MA&WS/MC2/ dt.29-11-2001. The detailed project report is approved for Rs.52.01 crores with the following cost sharing pattern in Lr.No.J-39020/11/2001-NRCD-11/dt.26.12.2001.

• GOI : Rs.19.50 crores.
• GOTN : Rs. 6.50 crores.
• Local Body : Rs.21.68 crores.
• Public contribution : Rs. 4.33 crore.

The total area of the town is 108.65 sq. km. The town is divided into 4 zones. The sewage generated from each zone is collected through a network of street sewers to a collection well. The sewage collected in each zone is pumped to the sewage treatment plant constructed at Ramaiyanpattai of capacity 24.20 MLD by adopting Waste Stabilization Pond system. The treated effluent is let into the open channel and utilized for Agriculture. The total length of sewer line is 187.272 KM with 7924 manholes. The total number of house service connections is 22226. The Corporation has effected 21933 House Service Connections as on date, which includes the existing 1350 connections.

The Project was commenced on 6-3-2003. The scheme has been completed & commissioned on 15.7.2006 and under maintenance (for 5 years) since 01-04-07. Out of Rs. 49.554 Crores received from the above funding agencies an expenditure of Rs.54.893 Crores has been incurred as on 31-12-2010.
