Training Activities of TWAD Board

The training wing of TWAD Board is vested with the responsibilities of Planning,organising and conducting training courses on the Water Supply and Drainage sector for TWAD Board staff. A separate training wing has been established in TWAD Board in 1983 to train the Board staff.

The main Training Centre is situated at Head Office, Chennai and other 3 Training Sub Centres are situated at Coimbatore, Madurai and Trichy.

The aim of the Training Centres is to provide In-house training to all staff members working in TWAD Board (inclusive of technical and non-technical) in TWAD Board to equip, update & to act as a platform to horn the skills.

Induction and Orientation training programmes to the newly recruited staff at all levels from Assistant Engineers to Clerical level are being conducted to tone up and to sharpen their skills.

TWAD Board is also deputing Engineers to participate in Seminars, Expo & National/International level Conference conducted by premier Research institutions of Govt. / Recognized leading national and international institutions all over India.

Conducting training in tie up with Premier Institutions like IIT, Madras & Anna Administrative Staff College to upgrade Technical & Managerial skills using Application Softwares like Water Gem, Sewer Gem and STADD Pro.

TWAD Board has been identified & recognized as Key Resource Centre (KRC) by Govt.of India, Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation. Training Programmes are also being
conducted with GoI fund.

In addition to the above, Training has also been arranged to the officials (IAS Probationers, Pro Deputy Collectors, Under Secretary to Government & Section Officers) deputed by Govt. of Tamil Nadu to undergo the “Compulsory Training in Heads of Departments & District Training Programmes“.

Apart from the above, Officers are also deputed to various Training Programmes,Symposium and Seminars conducted by other Organizations.

Training Methodology

Depending on the requirements of the programme, the participants are provided
with a combination of theoretical and practical inputs. The following methodologies are
used for training:

  • Class room lectures.
  • Audio-Visual presentation.
  • Case studies.
  • Field visits.
  • Group discussions

Training-Infrastructure

The Training Centres of TWAD are equipped with Air conditioned Lecture halls with a seating capacity of 50 with internet facilities, LCD Projector & Over Head projector with A.V facilities.

The Cost of Trainingis met out from

  • Budgetary allocation from TWAD Board Funds.
  • Jal Jeevan Mission Support Activity Fund

Annual Training Plan

Every year, Annual Training Plan for Training Centre & 3 Sub Training Centres and the Budget proposals are prepared & got approved from the competent authority for conducting Training Programmes.

Training activities for the year 2023-2024

It is proposed to conduct 12 training courses benefitting 1210 persons during the year 2023-2024 under Jal Jaevan Mission Support Activity.

Library

A Library is functioning at IV floor of TWAD House, attached to the Training Centre and about 2300 Technical, Management, Computer, Law and ISI books. Technical Journals, Course material of various training programmes conducted by TWAD Board, Workshop proceedings etc., are available in the Library for reference.
